Rules and Guidelines
Basic Gameplay
Each player is limited to one account. Duplicate accounts, double playing or attempting to assume the identity of another player is prohibited.
Players must remain active or risk forfeiting their animals and facilities. If a player fails to respond to two activity checks in a row, animals and facilities will be seized by the game.
Impulsion is home to a wide variety of people, personalities and beliefs. While dialogue of a personal nature is allowed and encouraged on the forums, members are asked to keep the topics of their posts in good taste. We reserve the right to completely remove inappropriate posts or topics or halt further conversation.
Players may not violate the terms of service at any time during game play.
Starting Out
When logging in for the first time, please read all the documentation provided in "Starting Out" and make sure to visit the Community Center and introduce yourself.
New members start the game in one of three ways; as an amateur, a professional, or a breeder. Each one has advantages and disadvantages. What you start out with depends on which option you selected upon registration.
Amateurs start out with five Horse Credits, five Dog Credits, and $120,000. If you choose to be an amateur, you can save money by boarding your animals or you can go into debt to purchase facilities an open a barn. Choosing to be an amateur may be the wise choice for beginners - you will be able to get your feet on the ground and learn the ropes before spending a lot of money on facilities. Amateurs must pay the full stables tax and the full breeding tax until they have passed the Barn Manager and Breeders exams.
Professionals start out with two Horse Credits, two Dog Credits, and $75,000. Professionals also start the game with a small facility: 20 acres of land, 10 stalls/kennels, a medium outdoor arena and a house. Facilities necessary for expansion are costly, but expansion may pay off if you become a boarding stable. Professionals do not have to take the Barn Manager exam to be exempt from the stables tax, but do have to pay the full breeding tax.
Breeders start the game with three Horse Credits, three Dog credits, $100,000, and a small facility: 10 acres of land, 5 stalls/kennels, a breeding shed and a house. If you choose to be a breeder, you can concentrate on expanding your facility or on acquiring high-quality stock for your breeding program. As a breeder, you will pay only a portion of the breeding tax but will still have to pay the full stables tax.
Money Matters
All transactions take place through the EquiBank, Impulsion’s automated banking system. An initial amount will be deposited in your bank account during activation. Players can login to check their accounts and manage their finances at any time.
Players also get a fixed salary per month. The value of this salary is determined by the number of IAIP Points each member has, and payments are made at the end of each month.
Players are required to pay taxes on facilities and for each breeding performed. Taxes on facilities are determined by the size of facility, whether or not the player has a loan. Taxes on breeding are based on a sliding scale. Players may bypass taxes by passing the Barn Manager and/or Breeder exams.
Breeding taxes apply every time a player breeds a foal. They are calculated to be 2% of your total fluid assets (i.e. cash in the bank).
Stable taxes are paid when your stable is approved, and once a year thereafter. They are calculated to be 5% of your facilities' worth.
Tests
Passing tests gives players advantages in gameplay. Each test must be passed with a 100% score.
Passing the breeders test lowers the breeding tax to .5%.
Passing the barn manager test exempts players from the stables tax.
Passing the vet test allows players to perform veterinary services on their own stock.
Passing the trainers test qualifies players to receive an extra $2,000 a month for show fees.
Credits
There are four kinds of credits in Impulsion: horse credits, dog credits, adoption and MP credits. Additional credits can be earned through participation in the IAI program.
Horse credits can be used to create or import horses, dog credits can be used to create or import dogs. These credits can also be traded in for adoption credits at a ratio of three adoption credits per horse or dog credit.
MP credits can be used for importing or creating animals. They can also be traded in for adoption credits.
Adoption credits are used to adopt animals from the Humane Society.
Time And Aging
Impulsion operates on real time, which means one year in real life equals one year in Impulsion. All animals age one year on January 1st.
All horses are automatically expire at the age of 30 and all dogs automatically expire at 15. Players may choose to for this to happen sooner by selecting the 'Retire' option on the animal's ECUID. This decision cannot be reversed.
Horses may be speedaged once as long their new birth year does not conflict with their parent's ages or the birth year(s) of other offspring. Speedaging cannot be reversed. Dogs cannot be speedaged.
Managing your animals
All animals must be registered with Equine & Canine Universal Identification (ECUID) to exist. Registration numbers must be available before an animal can be sold or bred.
Animals may not share a name with a real life horse or dog, unless the real life animal is owned by a player. No two animals in Impulsion may share a name. If necessary, names may be changed and the animal in question may retain his or her records.
Impulsion encourages players to provide their animals with real life lineage.
All animals must reside at an approved facility within two weeks of creation, importation or being bred. Care should be provided to animals on a regular basis. This includes providing feed, veterinary care and visits to the farrier if applicable.
Animals owned by a player can be accessed by clicking on "My Horses" or "My Dogs" in the "My Impulsion" tab.
Importing & Exporting
Importing animals is different than creating them in that imported animals must exist in another game, or in all-sim, prior to being brought into Impulsion. In order to be imported, there must be proof that said animal already exists and the animal must meet the same requirements as a created animal. Upon importation, animals must have their show records converted to Impulsion's point scale.
Exporting is the removal of an animal from Impulsion. Exporting may only be performed by the current owner, and requires the written permission of the original owner. Expectations will be made on a case by case basis.
Players may not import animals into the game for sale purposes. If a player wishes to sell an animal outside of Impulsion to another player the animal must be sold outside the confines of the game and then imported by his new owner. Animals may be exported for sale if they meet the requirements for exportation.
Breeding Your Animals
Only the owner of a mare or bitch may enact a breeding. This player is also responsible for paying the breeding tax.
Mares must be at least three years old to be bred. A mare can only have one foal for each year. The one exception to this rule is embryo transfer. Since a surrogate dam is being used, the foal may have the same birth year as another foal from the same dam. Donor mares may not donate more than three times per year.
A stallion can not be bred until he is at least two years of age. Foals resulting from a breeding to a stallion must be at least two years younger than the sire.
Dogs & bitches must be at least one and a half years of age to be bred. Bitches may only have two litters per birth year, and the same rules that apply to mares apply to bitches.
There is no set gestation period in Impulsion.
Auctions, Sales & Purchasing
Every animal must have an ECUID number to be bought or sold. If a player buys an unregistered animal, they will not be able to use it in the game unless he or she has the appropriate credits available. It is the buyer's responsibility to make the animal is registered. To verify an animal's status, simply search the ECUID.
Once an animal is sold, the seller has two weeks to transfer it to the new owner. Only sellers can transfer animals.
Once a check is cashed for the sale of a horse, the original owner has no claim to the horse. Sales contracts are welcome, and most members will abide by them out of common courtesy, but they are not binding within Impulsion. Imported animals will be held to any contracts entered in outside of Impulsion.
Establishments & Facilities
The word "establishment" is a general term used in Impulsion to describe stables, businesses, registries and associations. All players are encouraged to create their own establishments at any time during gameplay. Each type of establishment has its own guidelines and must to be approved before being listed in the game's directory. In order to have an establishment approved, a Structural Approval must be submitted.
Stables & Kennels
Stables and kennels are the living spaces for the horses and dogs of Impulsion. There are two kinds; private and public or boarding. Some may even offer mini-barns or mini-kennels for rent to other players.Players are required to purchase facilities for stables and kennels. Just like in real life, facilities are expensive. You will either have to learn how to conserve your money or take out a loan with the EquiBank.
Stables and kennels must have a working website that meets Impulsion's guidelines for websites as well as include a listing of current facilities and of current stock.
Associations & Registries
Associations, registries and clubs are establishments that offer activities to players who share a common interest. They may be breed, species, type, or discipline specific. Association may be opened at any time, provided there is suitable interest, and must hold semi-regular shows.Associations, registries and clubs must be unique to their specific interest and no two may share the same interest.
Associations, registries and clubs may have their own national championships, point systems, titles and awards.
Shops & Businesses
Businesses are establishments in which members offer goods or services for a fee, like a tack store or a design service.
Facilities for stables and kennels may be purchased from the Land Trust Co. Facilities may be sold back to the Land Trust Co. for a portion of their original cost, but may not be sold to other members.
General Website guidelines
Any website affiliated with Impulsion sim must display a visible disclaimer on each page. The disclaimer must indicate that the website is part of a simulated (fake, pretend) game. A link back to Impulsion is encouraged but not required.
Websites hosted on Expage, Myspace, LiveJournal or on a forum-based site will not be approved. We suggest a freehost like Geocities, Freewebs, Newsits.
Websites submitted for approval should be polished and professional. Content should be proofread for spelling and grammatical errors and all images and links must be working.
Using Images & Photographs
The use of photographs to depict sim animals is encouraged if permission to use the image has been obtained from the appropriate source. Credit should be displayed below the photograph or on a separate acknowledgments page.
If a player neglects to obtain permission or provide credit for an image, Impulsion will not be held responsible for the consequences of violating this rule.
Any player may use the same photos as another member if they wish, provided permission has been granted to both members.
Players are permitted to sell photographs to each other only if they hold the proper copyright.
Canceling your membership
When a player wishes to leave Impulsion, they should fill out the "Cancel Account" form located in the "My Impulsion" tab. This form automatically deletes the player's accounts, exports any animals imported or created and still owner by the player, and sends any animals remaining on the account to the Humane Society.
Prior to canceling a membership, players leaving the game may give any animals they own that they did not create, breed or import back to the original owners or, if the original owner is no longer in the game, attempt to find new owners for them.
If consent from the original owner is available, players leaving the game may also choose to export animals. Players who wish to do so should submit an export form and wait for approval before canceling their accounts.
These guidelines apply only to players in good standing. Players being expelled as part of a disciplinary action forfeit all animals to the care of the Humane Society.
Returning To Impulsion
Players are welcome to return to Impulsion provided they left the game in good standing. All players, aside from those listed below, must begin as again as if they were a new player upon returning. Rejoining players may not take back animals they gave away before leaving.
Players who have previously donated to Impulsion (a minimum of $10.00 USD) and who wish to return to the game are eligible to reclaim any previously owned animals from the Humane Society.
Players in bad standing or who have been expelled will not be permitted to return to the game except under certain circumstances and will be subject to a zero tolerance policy.
Donations
Donations to Impulsion to assist in covering running costs are encouraged but never necessary - any item earned via donation can also be earned through participation in gameplay.
Donations made will earn the player one voucher, which can be exchanged for land, facilities, credits or cash. Donations are not exchangeable or refundable.
